Best Practices in Filmstrip Archiving. Internationaler Workshop

Our project is launching an initiative to bring renewed attention to the once-ubiquitous filmstrip—a mid-20th-century tool for education, communication, and cultural outreach. Though created for schools, churches, governments, and industry, these durable audiovisual materials now sit dispersed across European archives, often overlooked. Our project works to reconnect these collections and reestablish filmstrips as a meaningful part of media history.

We’re opening a Europe-wide conversation with archivists and institutions to develop shared best practices for preserving, cataloguing, and presenting filmstrips—and to help shape a broader model for caring for other obsolete media.

We invite institutions and professionals across archival, academic, and creative fields to join us. All these insights are key to ensuring these unique materials become identifiable, accessible, and meaningful for researchers and the public today.
